Be a Goal-Getter in 2020!
It’s that time of year again when we set our intentions for the year ahead. This is a particularly special time as 2020 marks the start of a new decade. Before you dust off your glue gun and pull out your magazine collection for your vision boards, check out a few of my tips for goal planning in the new year!
Goal-Getting tips…
Start from a place of gratitude
Before you ask God and the universe to manifest new opportunities in your life, take a moment to reflect on what you’ve already achieved and received in 2019. If 2019 was not a great year for you, be thankful for the lessons you’ve learned and the stronger person you’ve become. Since we are also saying goodbye to a decade, take some time to reflect on your accomplishments over the years.
Organize your goals into categories.
Break up your goals into several categories (physical, mental, financial, places to travel, things to try, etc). Thinking of your goals in this way helps you to focus on what steps you need to take to achieve them. Check out my free “Goal-Getter Workbook” to help you categorize and plan your goals.
Less is more
It’s completely okay to have 3-5 goals that you are working toward for the year. I know we are all ambitious girls right? But having too many goals is overwhelming and makes it a challenge to focus on the the few things that will have the greatest impact.
4. Make a plan
Take each of your goals and think about the steps you need to take to achieve it. I have found it really impactful to think about small things I can incorporate into my daily routine that will get me closer to my goal. For example, I want to remain consistent with this blog so each day I will spend thirty minutes working on content, engaging on social media, etc. Breaking your goals down into daily bite size amounts will bring your closer to your goal in no time.
5. Timing is key
Oftentimes, when we set our goals, we only look one year out. Explore setting goals for different time frames (3 months, 6 months, 5 years, 10 years). This year, I’ll be setting my goals and creating a vision board focused on what I want to achieve in the next 5 years. I’ve found that when i’ve looked back on past vision boards, my goals took more than a year to complete (buy house, have baby, launch blog, etc).
5. Keep your goals in front of you
Don’t fall victim to the “out of sight, out of mind” mentality. Keep your goals clearly visible or at the least, easily accessible so you can reflect on them frequently. Check out my goal planning template on instagram so you can keep your goals with your everyday on your phone and/or share your goals with friends who’ll help keep you accountable in the new year.
Hopefully you found one or all of these tips helpful! I wish you peace, joy, love, and happy planning in the new year!
