Interview Prep Series: Tip 4
Tip 4: Send Thank You Notes….after the interview
To some the art of sending a thank you note after interviews is "old school" but I think there is still something to be said about the candidate that takes time to show gratitude. In some cases a thank you email is acceptable but if you can send a handwritten note then please make the effort. No matter what, you'll want to send/mail your notes within 24 hours of the interview
One key to writing a thoughtful and impactful thank you note is to personalize your message for each interviewer by recalling one to two things that you remember from your conversation. During your interview, make note of topics you discussed that stood out to you as well as answers to any questions you asked in the interview.
Check out pages 10-11 of the “The Interview”: The Ultimate Job Interview Prep Workbook to try this exercise. There is space on these pages to list information you’ve found on your interviewers such as title and years of experience. You can also use these pages to write out questions you have for each interviewer followed by a notes section you can use during the interview.
